It's been a period of change here and it's been a long while since I've posted and been active on my author platforms. I'm gathering up the dust as it settles and working to take the reins of creative motes once again.
There will be new and also familiar happening over the next few years. Those of you who have been reading my posts will know that The Dark Space Between has been in the making for some time and my editor will be sending me the edits for this book this year. So. It's imminent.
The Book Of Life took to the back burner as it became too painful to work on and also became overshadowed by another work inspired by life events and life stories. The Book of Life will come into being when the time is right, as all works step out of the wings and into centre stage when it is their time to do so.
The book that stepped to the fore asking to be written is a time slipping tale of love, relationships, and heritage. Time will tell how this story will go. Patience, Diane. This is the long game. And writing is informed by life as much as life can be informed by writing.
Wow, it's here! This has been a fast piece of magic! A Little Book of Tarot Tales began earlier this year, and was a wonderful book to work on. It came in organically, and has raced against my other two books to make it to the world first! And so it is.
If you like tarot, fairy tales, illustrated works, literary fiction, writing with depth, symbol, and subversion, this is the book for you.
You can now order direct from Beaten Track Publishing, or of course you can order from your usual go-to book shop. Links are here on my website, and of course please, please do leave reviews and get in touch with me.
Happy Monday everyone. Whatever your week holds for you, I have a read for you here to help you focus. If your week looks crammed full, a little tarot focus can slimline the energy channels for you. If your week looks bare or forlorn, this read can offer you some direction, some energy focus, some food for thought.
So moving from left card through to right, we have cards drawn for the overall energy of the week, challenges of the week, how to deal with those challenges, and blessings the week will offer us.
The overall energy this week will offer us is that of Rebirth. This is a celebratory energy to focus on. We may be going through a loss, or difficult challenge, or the end of something big, but know that there is this continual cycle that death offers us. Energy is eternally transforming and so we can bloom and fly high with this new beginning, this new self, situation, or prospect. Spread your wings and rejoice!
The challenge or challenges of the week are based in the energy of the 8 of Water. Solitude and reflection may feel difficult. We may feel like retreating and that could seem like a backward or negative step. Keep in mind the overall energy of the week is Rebirth, and the challenge of retreating and reflecting can be shifted into a nurturing cocoon. One step further is breaking from that cocoon and moving towards what pulls you. If someone close to you seems distant, remember this is the challenge for the week in the knowledge that they need that period of reflection and distance for important progress to be made.
Accept the challenge to trust your intuition.
And so...the tarot presents us the 10 of Fire energy to deal with this challenge. Draw in that personal fire, knowing it is both the end and the beginning. When you feel challenged this week, ignite your personal power, know that you can illuminate the darkness with your magic. You are lighting the way through the darkness. You will reach your blessings with magic, power, and true light.
This week offers us the blessings of the 6 of Water. Rejoice in the plenty that the flow of life offers you, in the pure offerings, in the gifts. We have exactly what we need, if we go with the flow we will discover so much in the deep, and we have this as we are going through a period of transformational Rebirth, reflection, and personal light.
Trust, remember to take a breath, and I wish you a confident and peaceful week.
Merry May Day weekend! The sun is shining here in The Peak District, the Hawthorn is blooming a vibrant green against the spring blue sky, and the chiff chaffs are singing gleefully.
It's a beautiful backdrop for writing fruition. Broken hours in the writing nook do pay off. Persistence and faith are key. All the disruption to creative flow from family life and responsibility doesn't hinder in the long term if I Never Give Up!
And so, in addition to a contract for The Dark Space Between, I now have a completed manuscript of Tarot Tales and my publisher has accepted and edited A Book of Little Tarot Tales!
I am thrilled, as this baby is as personal to me as the Colour in Woman, and I am so excited to see a beautiful edition of this in my own hands.
In the meantime, I am busy with fresh writing. It's time to return each day to The Book of Life now the avenue of A Book of Little Tarot Tales has been trodden.
We'll see what I can smash out before the next school holiday!
Don't forget to contact me if you have comments about any of my works, or if you would like to arrange a tarot read. I'd love to hear from you.
Magic has been flowing in the writing nook, and 2022 has seen the natural birthing of an exciting new collection of tales.
I am working again with the illustrator from Flora's Fairy Tales and together we are now creating A Book of Little Tarot Tales. Following the flow of the universe has led me to the most unexpected of places.
I am grateful to all the creators of the tarot decks who have inspired me to walk in this tarot world and weave the stories waiting there. I am grateful to Life, for presenting me with such rich depths to draw from. I am grateful to Death, for teaching me so much about Life.
Working with an illustrator who is passionate about these stories is such a privilege, and I am grateful to have a publisher who is as excited about this project as I am.
I can say this with certainty: the universe holds so much love and magic; follow the path of least resistance and find yours!
Watch this space for the completion of A Book of Little Tarot Tales...
The cold skin of the Bone Mother lays waste across my part of the world once again. It is cold, bare, stark, and real. I love the bare bones of winter, and the harshness offers opportunity for internal reflection. This is why it is so fitting that I am starting a new novel at this time of year. The Book of Life is a raw inquiry into life, death, reality, and grief. It's a challenge to write, and close to the bone for me. But that stark scape lends a clear vision. There's no lush greenery to hide behind; no flowers to smell, no heat to wrap the skin in.
All is laid bare.
To see and be seen.
And so these winter months will see the birth of The Book of Life.
The Dark Space Between...
is finally complete pre-edits and I pray journeys well. The ice world of Svalbard, and the post-Crystalline age of England posits many a gap to brave.
For those who remain.
It has been some time in the making, this little nugget, but I'm thrilled that the summer solstice of 2021 sees me in my new writing nook looking over this finished edition.
Yes, The Colour in Woman and Other Tales is being published by Beaten Track and contains a revised edition of The Colour in Woman, as well as this magical portal.
Flora's Fairy Tales is the key that is offered to the hand that dare hold it, and these tales play out the characters that dare journey deeper and deeper.
I LOVED creating these little gems, and am thrilled to have worked with an illustrator on this project. It is a magical delight to have colour illustrations for these fairy tales. I believe more of this line will follow in the future!
Seven of Pentacles
Knight of Swords carried on her journey with the gift of emotion and creation from Mermaid.
She felt confident as ever in her determination to fulfil her quest. On her wing she carried all the people from the toppled world of Tower, and their whispers on the wind fuelled her heart and bolstered her clarity.
As the sky cleared, a sense of rest and peace slowed her horse to a steady canter, before she stopped in a lush, verdant field.
"Here," she said with clear decision. "Here is where our next work lies. We will rest a while before rising up to the challenge of building our new world in this rich pasture. It will be a challenge, but with the gift of creative Two from Five, and with honest work, we will do it!"
Knight of Swords raised her sword into the air, the breeze blew, and the people of the toppled world of Tower fluttered to the ground.
And the hard and good work began!

Five of Cups
Knight of Sword rode on for miles and miles over bright moorland and rugged terrain, until she reached a cliff top. Trotting to the edge, she looked down to the crashing waves and stern rocks.
She was about to ride on when her sharp eye glimpsed a splash of colour far below. Craning her neck, Knight of Swords made out a mermaid with her head in her hands.
Knight of Swords navigated a tricky path down the face. Finally by the mermaid, she asked, "Hello there, are you all right?"
The mermaid sighed.
"I was all right, but everything feels dashed. What is the point in anything anymore? I have everything I need and yet no satisfaction."
She looked up at Knight of Swords with eyes like oceans. Her voice was the ebb and flow of the tide.
"Your cups. You have spilt what was in them."
The sigh was a salty breeze. "It doesn't matter."
The Knight gestured to the other cups. "All is not lost - you have two left unspoilt."
"Yes. From the power of five I have made two."
The mermaid's sudden laugh made the sea roil and crash. "From the power of change, I have created!"
A breeze whispered round Knight and Mermaid and they both locked in a moment of clarity and emotion.
"Yes!" Mermaid dove into the sea and rose to bade farewell to Knight of Swords. "Noble Knight, the tumult is clearing. I have created from the power of five! Gallop through the waves of emotion and pass beneath the stone arch and you shall have the same gift."
Knight of Swords inclined her head in thanks as Mermaid flickered away on the foam.
Air and Water passed under the arch and Knight of Swords felt clear.
